China engaged in a candid discourse about Iran and Israel at the United Nations Security Council, boldly accusing Israel during an emergency meeting. Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the UN, criticized Israel’s actions as breaches of international regulations, jeopardizing Iran’s sovereignty and weakening regional peace. Fu Cong explicitly expressed China’s condemnation.
Highlighting the peril of the ongoing conflict, Fu warned that an escalation would injure both parties and severely affect regional nations. However, China did not specify which Middle Eastern countries might be influenced by this war escalation.
Fu Cong noted with regret that the military conflict between Israel and Iran has entered its eighth day, resulting in substantial civilian casualties and damage to infrastructural facilities on both sides.
To date, reports indicate that 640 Iranians have perished in the conflict, compared with 40 casualties reported from Israel’s side.
From the onset, China has been advocating for a ceasefire. Fu Cong emphasized the urgency for immediate ceasefire, urging the international community to reach a consensus and foster diplomatic negotiations to ease tensions.
Fu Cong stated, "Military force is no solution to international disputes. It only leads to more malice and skirmish. The foundational actions should include a swift ceasefire to minimize losses. The situation must not fragment further."
"Conflicting parties, Israel especially, should prevent escalation and halt proliferation of the conflict to protect civilians promptly."
Fu underscored that in armed conflicts, the safety of civilians is paramount. Red lines mustn't be crossed, and force use must remain restrained. He stressed adherence to international laws, avoidance of civilian harm, protection of civilian installations, and helping third-party evacuations.
Fu noted the ongoing conflict’s disruptive impact on the Iran nuclear dialogue. He highlighted the troubling precedent set by attacks on nuclear sites and urged unwavering pursuit of a politically negotiated resolution to reinstate dialogue on the path to a political resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue.
