A shocking case has emerged from Tamil Nadu where a 22-year-old mother was coerced by a friend to sell her eggs. This incident took place in the Thiruvottiyur district, where the young woman sought refuge at a friend's house after an argument with her husband.
She hoped for support but found betrayal instead. The woman alleges that her friend, with the assistance of her husband, locked her in a room, assaulted her, and forced her to sell her eggs. Somehow, she escaped and reported the harrowing experience to her husband.
Following her complaint, the Thiruvottiyur police have detained the friend and her husband. Investigations are underway to determine if they are part of a larger criminal network or operating independently for personal gain. Unfortunately, similar incidents have previously surfaced in Tamil Nadu. For instance, last month, a stepfather and mother coerced a 16-year-old girl to sell her eggs, with accusations of repeated assault by the stepfather. In that case, both parents were also taken into custody.
Tamil Nadu authorities are actively investigating these troubling cases to crack down on such exploitation and ensure the protection and dignity of women.
