Operation Life in Dharali has now reached its sixth day. NDRF, Air Force, and SDRF teams are significantly engaged. The search operation here remains the biggest challenge. While evacuation—ensuring people are safely removed—is complete, delivering relief is taking time. The current focus is the search mission—to thoroughly examine buried areas and recover the bodies of those missing. Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) is being utilized to detect subterranean structures and individuals.
Communication was another major issue, which has now been resolved. The Indian Army's Signal Brigade restored internet services here. The Para Signal Regiment reestablished internet and calling facilities, enabling locals to communicate with family members—sending messages and making calls. Several telecom companies have also aided in this task.
For those still present in Dharali, this communication facility is a great relief. The army is running evacuation and rescue operations on one hand, while restoring communication with cutting-edge technology on the other. People within approximately a 2025-meter radius can now connect with their families and send messages.
Drone Surveillance
The state's rescue and disaster management team, SDRF (Special Decapitation Response Force), is closely monitoring the flood situation at Khir Ganga Ghat. Modern technology, particularly drones, is being extensively used for surveillance. Post-flood, this area has become vulnerable due to increased water levels and land erosion.
Medical Aid and Sector-Wise Search
Medical teams are onsite to treat the injured and distribute medications. NDRF has divided the area into different sectors to assign responsibilities. Sniffer dogs are deployed to search for bodies trapped under debris.
Low Chances of Survival, but Search Persist
After six days, the odds of finding anyone alive under debris are slim. However, locals believe many missing individuals are not accounted for in official records. Discovering bodies during excavation at least provides families with closure.
Road Closure and Logistical Challenges
The national highway connecting Dharali, Harshil, and Gangotri remains closed. A reservoir forming on the Bhagirathi River has cut off routes. Several kilometers of highway connecting to Uttarkashi have been washed away. The BRO is working on repairs, but road closure means heavy machinery is only delivered by Chinook helicopter, slowing relief efforts.
