It has been reported that on Thursday, a doctor was shot dead inside a nursing home in Delhi. The incident took place in South East Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj area, where the murderers fled after shooting the doctor inside the nursing home at night. A Delhi Police officer informed that the two suspects were teenagers visiting for treatment and shot Unani physician Javed Akhtar at around 1:45 AM.
According to a police officer, Neema Hospital is a three-bed facility located in a narrow alley of Khadda Colony. The bloodstained body of Unani doctor Javed Akhtar was found in a chair there, blood running from his head. Investigations revealed that boys aged about 16–17 years could be involved in the incident; they had arrived at the hospital for dressing at around 1 AM.
The officer mentioned that one of the boys had a bandaged toe and had visited the hospital a day earlier. After dressing, both proceeded to Unani doctor Javed Akhtar’s cabin. They lingered there.
Shortly after, during the night, nursing staff members Ghazala Parveen and Mohammad Kamil heard gunfire. Nurse Ghazala Parveen rushed inside the cabin and found doctor Javed Akhtar in a blood-soaked state. The police described it as a targeted killing on initial impression. A staff member from the same nursing home, Abid, stated that doctor Javed Akhtar had been working there for the past two years. His shift started at 8 PM on Wednesday, and he was present in his cabin.
Joint Police Commissioner (Southern Range) SK Jain stated that the suspects have been identified and characterized the act as targeted murder. Initially, both suspects met with the compounder for dressing and later shot the Unani physician in his cabin.
Joint CP SK Jain added that six teams have been formed to solve the case, and CCTV footage from within and around the nursing home has been collected. He mentioned that doctor Javed Akhtar was on night duty.
