A smoking dispute outside a battery-swapping station in Delhi's capital has led to the shocking murder of a 20-year-old man. The youth was publicly stabbed to death, as per the information revealed by the police on Friday.
The incident happened in the Rampura area of North-West Delhi. A police officer informed PTI that this shocking event took place in the late hours of July 2. The victim has been identified as Vikas Sahu, who objected to an individual smoking near his workplace.
The police reported that they were notified of an injured person admitted at the Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital from Keshav Puram. Upon arrival, they discovered Vikas had severe stab wounds, and tragically, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
In the initial investigation, Vikas's brother, Mithilesh Sahu, revealed to the police that they both worked at the Battery Smart Station on Lawrence Road, Rampura. At around 11:50 PM on July 2, a person using a Battery Smart ID registered under the name Roshan came to the station to change a battery. He was later identified as Naveen, a resident of Wazirpur, aged 32.
Mithilesh mentioned that Naveen began smoking near the station, and when Vikas opposed this, an argument ensued before Naveen left. According to the police, Naveen returned shortly with four to five associates and assaulted Vikas.
During this confrontation, one of the attackers stabbed Vikas. Mithilesh and their neighbor, Sanjay, rushed him to the hospital, where he was later declared dead. The police have filed an FIR and initiated further investigation.
Based on CCTV footage and local intelligence, the police have arrested four individuals, including a minor. The weapon used in the crime, along with an e-rickshaw and motorcycle, has been recovered.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Naveen (32), his wife Manisha (24), and Chirag (20), along with a detained minor. Efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining suspects.
