As the month of Sawan comes to an end, Delhi witnessed a deluge on Saturday. The relentless rain on Raksha Bandhan turned roads into lakes, halting traffic and making walking a challenge. Many areas experienced water levels ranging from knee to four feet deep.

The continuous downpour on Raksha Bandhan dimmed the festive spirit in markets. Sweet shops saw no customers, with prepared sweets left untouched in warehouses due to waterlogging, which kept people from reaching the shops. Several shopkeepers lamented that the rain washed away their festival sales.

Recurring Annual Problem

With changes in government, the situation remains the same. Waterlogging during rains was a problem in Delhi in the past and continues today. Despite yearly promises to clean drains and improve water drainage systems, the situation exposes administrative shortcomings.
