As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators is gaining traction. The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has now ramped up its efforts in this regard. MCD Deputy Commissioner has issued notices to schools to identify illegal Bangladeshi students in their midst.

The directive issued by the MCD's education department states that encroachments by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants should be removed immediately. This order applies to all regions under the MCD's jurisdiction. Furthermore, the MCD has instructed the public health department to ensure that birth certificates are not issued for newborns whose parents are illegal Bangladeshis. It has requested a report on these actions by December 31, 2024.

Sanjay Singh Criticizes Central Government

On the MCD's orders, Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated, 'BJP chief JP Nadda said in Parliament that those from Purvanchal are Rohingyas, infiltrators. Now, the MCD has ordered verification processes in MCD schools, anti-encroachment drives, and non-issuance of birth certificates. Under the guise of Bangladeshis, they want to insult and humiliate people from Purvanchal. They aim to demean the poor from UP and Bihar. Why was this order issued?'

He criticized the BJP further, saying, 'Do you intend to intimidate Purvanchalis and their children? Do you want to bulldoze their shops and homes in slums? If you intend to act against Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, you should visit Bakrawala EWS, which Hardeep Puri tweeted about.'

When asked why he was accusing the BJP when the Aam Aadmi Party was leading the MCD, Sanjay Singh responded, 'Officials are under pressure; the services department is under the central government. You know who lives in the slums and shanties—our Purvanchal brothers reside there. You wish to harass them. BJP, Hardeep Puri, and Amit Shah know where Bangladeshis and Rohingyas dwell; they live in Bakrawala. If you aim to act against illegal immigrants, go there.'

MCD's Decisive Actions

The Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) of MCD, BP Bhardwaj, emphasized that appropriate measures should be taken by the education department to prevent illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from enrolling in municipal schools. He also instructed that an appropriate verification campaign should be conducted to identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrant students already studying in schools.

During this meeting, discussions occurred about the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, and heads of relevant MCD departments and regional officers were asked to implement some preventive measures.

The MCD further advised the public health department to adopt the necessary precautionary preventive measures during birth registration and the issuance of birth certificates to prevent illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from acquiring birth certificates. It is advised that a verification campaign should be conducted to determine whether birth certificates have already been issued to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
