To ensure road safety on New Year's Eve 2026, the Delhi Traffic Police and Faridabad Police implemented comprehensive and stringent measures. Special checking and monitoring campaigns were conducted to maintain smooth and safe traffic flow in both cities.
The Traffic Management Division in Delhi made special arrangements throughout the city, focusing predominantly on Connaught Place and surrounding areas. Given the expected large crowds and traffic on New Year's, additional police forces were deployed in these regions. The enforcement and surveillance campaigns spanned the entire city, with local police and PCR vans ensuring disciplined and accident-free traffic conditions.
Special Checking and Monitoring Campaigns Implemented
Delhi Traffic Police conducted special checking drives at sensitive locations, major intersections, and main roads. Attention was primarily on violations like drunk driving, riding two-wheelers without helmets, triple riding, wrong-way driving, and illegal parking. Senior traffic officers were on-site overseeing the entire setup. Approximately 100 teams armed with breathalyzers were deployed throughout the night.
According to statistics, on December 31, 2025, a total of 8,461 traffic violation challans were issued in Delhi, compared to 2,901 on December 31, 2024. Instances of drunk driving rose from 272 to 857. Cases of wrong-way driving increased from 240 to 1,630. Illegal parking incidents climbed from 2,312 to 5,783, while triple riding cases rose from 77 to 191. These figures indicate the enforcement drive was notably stricter this time.
Similarly, in Faridabad, the police remained on full alert during the New Year celebrations. Over 1,500 police officers were on duty across the district to maintain law and order. Eighteen drunk driving checkpoints were set up throughout the city and at the borders with neighboring states and districts. All police station managers, police post in-charges, and crime branch officers were present in the field.

According to the Faridabad Police, all New Year events in the city concluded peacefully. Strict actions were taken against drunk drivers. Approximately 200 drink and drive challans were issued, and over 750 vehicle challans in total were made. Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic, Maqsood Ahmed, personally oversaw field operations and management. A police spokesperson emphasized that Faridabad Police is committed to service, safety, and collaboration, and such stringent actions will continue to prevent road accidents and ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Traffic Police conducted a special campaign across the city on New Year's Eve. Breathalyzer tests were performed at major intersections, entry routes, and crowded areas. In addition, 13,752 e-challans were issued for violations like not wearing helmets, breaking signals, talking on mobile phones, driving without a license, and not wearing seat belts, resulting in fines exceeding INR 1.31 crore.
