Deepinder Goyal, the visionary behind Zomato, also founded Blinkit, both part of the publicly traded Eternal Limited, boasting a market cap exceeding ₹2.57 trillion.

Founder and former Group CEO of this innovative company, Deepinder Goyal, has stepped down from his position. Albinder Dhindsa, Blinkit's CEO, has been appointed as the new Group CEO of Eternal. This change will take effect on February 1, 2026, as communicated to the exchanges.

Why Did Deepinder Goyal Resign?

Eternal stated that Goyal wishes to shift away from routine tasks to explore new strategic opportunities, although his ties with the company will remain intact. Upon approval by the board and shareholders, Goyal will transition to the role of Vice Chairman at Eternal.

Albinder Dhindsa's elevation to Eternal's Group CEO is deemed pivotal. His strategic expansion of Blinkit has been exemplary, and the company aims to leverage his expertise across the entire group.

Deepinder Goyal remarked that his decision to step down from the Group CEO position was personal. He desires to pursue new ventures with inherent risks, feeling the responsibilities of a listed company’s Group CEO—including pressures from shareholders, regulations, and quarterly results—are misaligned with his new goals.

Who is Deepinder Goyal?

Deepinder Goyal is synonymous with Zomato, the company he founded in 2008. An IIT Delhi alumnus, he completed his graduation in Mathematics and Computing in 2005. Post-engineering, he carved his managerial prowess at Bain & Company, a prestigious consulting firm, which was instrumental in conceiving the Zomato startup.

A self-made entrepreneur, Deepinder Goyal has his net worth estimated by Forbes at approximately $1.6 billion, mainly via his shares in Zomato/Eternal Limited.

Goyal's 2008 vision paved the way for Zomato to digitally deliver restaurant menus and food information. Growing within India and beyond, Zomato stands tall as a global food-tech giant. Zomato’s acquisition of Blinkit reinforced its stronghold in the quick-commerce segment.

Deepinder Goyal’s impressive car collection features the likes of Ferrari Roma, Porsche 911 Turbo, Lamborghini Urus, and Aston Martin DB12—testament to his success as a young Indian entrepreneur making significant corporate inroads.

Goyal faced an arduous path to success when launching Zomato. Lacking significant capital, a team, or startup experience, he personally gathered restaurant menus, scanned, and uploaded them to build Zomato’s early database.

About Albinder Dhindsa

Albinder Dhindsa is credited with Blinkit's success. An IIT Delhi graduate with an engineering degree, he furthered his education with an MBA from Stanford University. His career spans roles at Unilever and OYO, enriching his grasp of consumer businesses and operations.

In 2013, Dhindsa founded Grofers, eventually rebranding as Blinkit. Despite initial setbacks and business model challenges, Dhindsa recalibrated strategies, focusing on rapid delivery, enhanced supply chain, and unit economics—catapulting Blinkit to prominence in the quick-commerce landscape in India.
