On Sunday, January 18, at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, Daryl Mitchell showcased his brilliance in the third ODI of the series. The middle-order batsman from New Zealand scored an outstanding century against India. Mitchell played a remarkable inning of 137 runs off 131 balls, which included 15 fours and three sixes.

This was Mitchell’s fourth and consecutive second ODI century against India. Previously, he remained unbeaten with 131 runs in the Rajkot ODI. In Indore, he was dismissed by pace bowler Mohammed Siraj, after which he began to walk back to the pavilion. While near the boundary, Virat Kohli clapped to acknowledge Mitchell’s performance and in a playful manner, gave him a light nudge off the field.

This lighthearted moment between Kohli and the ever-challenging Daryl Mitchell was caught on camera. Besides Mitchell’s century, Glenn Phillips also scored a century in the Indore ODI. Phillips made 106 off 88 balls, hitting 9 fours and 3 sixes. Together, they rained runs against India, forming a partnership of 219 runs for the fourth wicket in 186 balls.

Fueled by centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips, New Zealand posted a competitive total of 337 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs in the Indore ODI. For India, fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh picked up figures of 3/63, and Harshit Rana claimed 3/84, while other bowlers struggled to make an impact.

Daryl Mitchell accumulated a total of 352 runs in the three-match ODI series, thanks to 2 centuries and 1 half-century. His average stood at an impressive 176.00 with a strike rate of 110.34. Mitchell now holds the record for scoring the most runs by a Kiwi batsman in any bilateral three-match ODI series.
