The name of Islamnagar in the capital city of Bhopal was changed to Jagdishpur three years ago. However, many signboards still display the name Islamnagar. On Wednesday, Hindu activist groups used JCB machines to cover these signboards with posters of Jagdishpur. During the process, they also smeared black substance over the Islamnagar boards.

The activists assert that since the name has officially changed, why hasn't the administration updated the signboards throughout the area? They claim if the administration fails to act, they will personally replace the signage on the streets.

Prior to this, these groups caused further agitation outside the mosque, stating that milestones with the name Jagdishpur were being destroyed, particularly in front of the mosque and madrasa.

Meanwhile, members of the Muslim community at the mosque mentioned that this incident is a legal matter. If the stones have been broken, they should lodge a police complaint, as the narrow road in front of the mosque might have caused accidental damage due to vehicle traffic. They stated there's no problem with the name change from Islamnagar to Jagdishpur.

It is claimed that about 300 years ago, a fugitive soldier of Aurangzeb, Dost Mohammad Khan, captured Jagdishpur and renamed it Islamnagar. On February 1, 2023, following the approval from the Home Ministry of the central government, the state government officially renamed the village in Bhopal district from Islamnagar to Jagdishpur.
