Kanhaiya Kumar is set to launch his first election campaign in Northeast Delhi as a congressional candidate under the INDIA block. But party infighting surfaces before the event. Local congress workers have protested near the Maujpur metro station against his nomination. They argue that a local leader should be nominated, not an outsider.

Delhi Pradesh Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely's resignation today is linked to Kanhaiya's candidacy. According to Congress sources, Deepak Babaria is liaising with the party supremo. He will consult with Mallikarjun Kharge on the DPCC crisis.

Posters at Kanhaiya's campaign office only show images of Rahul Gandhi and Kejriwal, stirring controversy within the party ranks over the exclusion of other leaders.

Before the election activities, Kanhaiya had reached out to leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. Congress supporters joined the AAP's roadshow in Trilokpuri and showed their support for the candidate.

Why did Lovely resign?

Many have called for disciplinary action against Arvinder Singh Lovely, but the final straw appears to be the inauguration poster of Kanhaiya's office. There’s significant unrest within the party due to the absence of senior leaders' pictures on Kanhaiya's posters for the event.

Discord with Deepak Babaria

Lovely, in his letter, expressed a sense of helplessness within the party. He says, 'I am writing this with a heavy heart. As the president, I feel utterly powerless, thus I cannot continue in this position. All unanimous decisions concerning senior Delhi Congress leaders are unilaterally blocked by the in-charge (Deepak Babaria).' He describes not being allowed to appoint anyone to senior positions since his own appointment as party president.
