The Congress National Conference is set to commence today along the banks of the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The two-day event opens with a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC). It is anticipated that Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi may be assigned a significant responsibility. Sources within the party have confirmed discussions around a more defined and potentially higher role for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

With assembly elections looming in six key states, the Congress party is moving towards this decision. A senior leader mentioned that Priyanka Gandhi could be given a designated role, leveraging her political acumen and public engagement to benefit the party effectively. Shashi Tharoor, attending the conference in Ahmedabad, articulated that discussions would revolve around strategies to address the country's current issues.

Congress leader Jignesh Mevani mentioned that Rahul Gandhi's parliamentary challenge was to defeat the BJP in Gujarat. Despite the challenge, Rahul Gandhi's assertive speeches during his previous visits to Gujarat, advocating for promoting deserving individuals and sidelining non-performers, have sent ripples. The strength of Gujarat Congress is expected to grow in the coming days. Mevani added that he is unsure whether a proposal to strengthen district committees will emerge, but emphasized the benefits of decentralization and a more democratic party.

Sachin Pilot emphasized discussions on the country's pressing issues and Congress's strategy as the main opposition. He claimed Congress's strong groundwork in Gujarat, with ongoing organizational efforts. Discussions will also focus on equipping workers to tackle forthcoming challenges. A proposal on the current national situation and Congress's stance is expected. This conference aims to reinforce Congress in Gujarat. Pilot asserted that empowering district heads is a priority, and post-conference plans will clarify further actions. There's progress on implementing the Udaipur Declaration, and Pilot accused the BJP of attacking constitutional bodies, vowing to take this to the public.
