Doctors are outraged after the rape and murder of a trainee female doctor in Kolkata. In response, the central government has gone on alert mode regarding the safety of doctors and has issued guidelines to health institutions. The Ministry of Health stated that if an attack or violence occurs against doctors, an FIR must be filed against the concerned person within 6 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health, strict action will be taken in cases of attacks on doctors, and an FIR will be filed within 6 hours. The health ministry has sent a memo to all health institutions, specifying that in the event of violence against any doctor, an FIR must be lodged within 6 hours of the incident. The institution's head will bear this responsibility.

On the night of August 9, the body of a 31-year-old trainee female doctor was recovered from the seminar hall of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. There were marks of injury on her body, and she was bleeding. The investigation revealed that the doctor was raped and then murdered. The police have arrested the accused, Sanjay Roy, and sent him to jail. However, it has not been ruled out that more people might be involved in this incident.

Following the incident, doctors raised questions regarding their safety and began a strike. The High Court handed over the investigation to the CBI. Doctors emphasized that their safety should be prioritized, and the Central Protection Act should be implemented. In this regard, doctors' organizations also met with the central health minister, JP Nadda.

CBI Summons 4 Doctors

The CBI has summoned four trainee doctors from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for questioning on Friday. Sources say that the four doctors have been called to the CBI office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake to inquire about the night of the incident. Earlier, on Thursday, the CBI questioned three batchmates of the trainee doctor who were on duty on the night of August 8. The central investigative agency also questioned the former head of the hospital’s chest medicine department. They also interrogated the officer in charge of the police station under whose jurisdiction the hospital falls. Moreover, a CBI team visited the victim’s home and spoke to her parents. The investigators also noted the time of the phone call received from the hospital on August 9 and inquired about her daughter’s friends.
