The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has launched a serious critique against the Modi administration's alleged plans regarding the national census delay and upcoming delimitation. Stalin claims it is not merely a coincidence but a calculated move by the central government to diminish the political influence of South Indian states.
What Did Chief Minister Stalin Say?
Stalin labeled the delay as a 'dangerous conspiracy.' He stated that the center plans to use the 2027 census for delimitation instead of the 1971 census, potentially reducing Lok Sabha seats for Tamil Nadu and other southern states.
Such actions could lead to an increase in seats for northern India in the Lok Sabha, thereby reducing the South's presence in Parliament.
Southern states, including Tamil Nadu, have successfully implemented population control measures, but this advantage may now be turned against them as a form of punishment.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs has already reassured Tamil Nadu and other southern states that their concerns will be addressed.

Stalin cited Jammu and Kashmir as an example, pointing out that the BJP promised before the Supreme Court to restore statehood soon. However, this has not been realized, and Jammu and Kashmir remains a Union Territory.
Stalin Takes a Jibe at the Opposition
Stalin also criticized the AIADMK, stating that although the party may have surrendered its political independence to the BJP for survival, the DMK will not do so. Under the leadership of the DMK, Tamil Nadu will continue to progress rapidly.
Notably, during a press conference in Chennai on April 11, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the BJP would contest the 2026 Assembly elections in alliance with AIADMK.
