The results of the Maharashtra elections have been announced. On one side, the Grand Alliance has secured an overwhelming majority, while the performance of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi was extremely disappointing. The Grand Alliance hoisted its flag of victory on 233 seats, whereas the Maha Vikas Aghadi was reduced to only 49 seats. According to the Election Commission's data, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 26.77% of the votes, the highest share. BJP contested on 149 seats, winning 132, and garnered 17,293,650 votes.
Alongside achieving the maximum vote share, BJP set another record in these elections by securing 132 seats, marking a hat-trick of surpassing the 100-seat mark in assembly elections. Previously, BJP had won 122 seats in 2014 and 105 seats in the 2019 elections.
Congress Secures Second Place in Vote Share
Turning to Congress, the party contested 101 seats, but managed to win only 16. In the assembly elections, Congress received 12.42% of the votes, which places it in second place in terms of vote share, with a total of 8,020,921 votes.
Shinde Achieves 12.38% Vote Share
Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena contested 81 seats, winning 57, achieving a vote share of 12.38% with 7,996,930 votes.
Sharad Group Loses Despite More Votes Over Ajit Group
Interestingly, NCP (Sharad Pawar) had a higher vote share and vote count than the Ajit faction, yet the Sharad faction faced defeat. Contesting on 86 seats, it managed an 11.28% vote share and garnered 7,287,797 votes, winning just 10 seats. Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar's NCP won 41 of its 59 contested seats, with a vote share of 9.01% and 5,816,566 votes received.
Uddhav Faction Limited to 20 Seats
On the contrary, the Uddhav faction secured victory on 20 seats. Shiv Sena (UBT) achieved a vote share of 9.96%, receiving a total of 6,433,013 votes. In Maharashtra, a total of 461,886 votes were cast for NOTA, translating to 0.72% of the total votes. According to the Election Commission, there was a recorded voter turnout of 66.05% in the state assembly elections held on November 20, an increase from 61.1% in 2019.
