Discussions on candidate names are ongoing along with the preparation of the star campaigner list. Meanwhile, information has surfaced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may release its first list of candidates for the state assembly elections on Wednesday.
Rumor has it that over 50 candidates’ names will be revealed on Wednesday. This comes after an important meeting of BJP's top leaders late Tuesday, which concluded with the final approval of the candidate list. However, no official statement has been released by the party regarding this matter yet.
The voting for the 90-seat Haryana Assembly will take place in a single phase. All 90 seats in Haryana will undergo voting on October 5, with the election results announced on October 8 after counting. The current tenure of the Haryana Assembly is set to end on November 3, 2024. The last assembly election was held in October 2019, resulting in a coalition government by BJP and Jannayak Janata Party. BJP holds 40 seats, Congress has 31 seats, and independents/others hold 19 seats. Initially, the election was planned for October 1 with results on October 4, but the dates were modified due to festivals.
In the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections, BJP won for the first time, securing 47 seats and forming the government with an absolute majority. INLD won 19 seats, placing second, and Congress secured 15 seats, taking the third position. In the 2019 Haryana elections, no single party achieved a majority, and BJP emerged as the largest party with 40 seats. Congress halted at 31 seats, and the newly-formed Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) won 10 seats. The Chautala family's INLD managed to win just one seat.
