In Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, a 25-year-old man was strangled to death by Naxalites. They accused him of being a police informant. On Sunday, the police confirmed the murder by the Naxalites.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Kummesh Kunjam, who was a resident of Daler village. His body was recovered on the Cheeka-Tindodi road in the Bhairamgarh police station area on Sunday morning.
Reports from a news agency indicate initial investigations by police suggested that the Naxalites strangled Kunjam to death. Pamphlets left at the crime scene by the banned Naxalite group Bhairamgarh Regional Committee accused Kunjam of informing the police.
A police official stated that as soon as the information about the murder was received, a police team rushed to the scene and commenced an investigation. Security forces are conducting a search operation in the area to apprehend the Naxalites.
This year, over 50 people have been killed by Naxalites in the Bastar division, which includes seven districts, Bijapur being one of them. Despite ongoing operations by police and security forces, Naxalite incidents continue unabated in this region affected by Naxal activity.
The local populace is terrified by the murder of Kummesh Kunjam and is demanding security. Police have appealed to villagers not to succumb to Naxalite pressure and to report any suspicious activities immediately.
