Sharda Sinha's final Chhath song was released just a day before her demise. Although the recording had already been done, her new songs usually released around the Chhath festival. On the very first day of Chhath, she bid farewell to the world. Her last Chhath song is titled 'Dukhwa Mitaiin Chhathi Maiya'.
Health Deteriorated on Monday
On Monday night, reports surfaced that Sharda's condition was critical, and she was on ventilator support. In 2018, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a severe form of blood cancer, and had been undergoing treatment since then.
Her son, Anshuman Sinha, had been updating fans about her health on social media. During a live session on Sharda Sinha’s official YouTube channel, he shared that her condition was grave and the doctors were doing their utmost. Battling cancer, she was admitted to AIIMS, Delhi, on October 26.
Emotional, Anshuman revealed, 'This time, it's true news. Mother is on a ventilator. I have signed the consent. Please keep praying. This is a huge battle she's fighting. It's terribly difficult, really difficult this time. Pray she gets through this. This is the real update. I just saw her. May Chhathi Maiya bless her. The doctors mentioned there has been a sudden turn for the worse, and everyone is making efforts.'
Sharda Sinha in Shock After Husband's Passing
In September, Sharda Sinha's husband, Braj Kishore, passed away at the age of 80 due to a brain hemorrhage. They had been married for 54 years. Reports suggest that she was in shock after his death, and since then, her health had further declined. When admitted to the hospital in October, she reportedly had issues with eating, although no official updates came from the hospital or her family on these matters.
'Nightingale of Bihar' Sharda Sinha
Born on October 1, 1952, in Supaul, Bihar, Sharda Sinha sang predominantly in Maithili and Bhojpuri. She was honored with the Padma Shri in 1991 and the Padma Bhushan in 2018. Known as the 'Nightingale of Bihar', she also lent her voice to Bollywood and Bhojpuri films, but her Chhath songs brought her significant recognition.
Throughout her career, she released nine albums featuring 62 Chhath songs. Without her songs, people's Chhath celebrations feel incomplete. Her passing just before Chhath is an irreplaceable loss to Bhojpuri folk music.
