Former Indian cricket player and national coach, Anshuman Gaekwad, is currently facing a challenging fight against blood cancer. In support, legendary cricketer Kapil Dev decided to donate his pension to aid Anshuman's treatment. Other cricket heroes like Mohinder Amarnath, Sandeep Patil, Madan Lal, and Kirti Azad have stepped forward to support their fellow player.

BCCI's Generous Proclamation

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has joined in to assist the renowned player, allocating 10 million rupees for his medical expenses. According to sources from Aaj Tak, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has directed the immediate release of funds and also inquired about Anshuman's health with his family.

Jay Shah has assured that the board stands with Anshuman Gaekwad's family during this difficult time and will do whatever is necessary to facilitate his swift recovery. The BCCI will continue to monitor Gaekwad's progress and is confident that he will emerge from this ordeal with strength.

A Glance at Anshuman's Cricketing Legacy

Anshuman Gaekwad made his test cricket debut against the West Indies in Kolkata on December 27, 1974. His last appearance in a test match was against England in Kolkata at the end of 1984. In his career, he scored 1985 runs at an average of 30.07 in 40 test matches, including 2 centuries and 10 half-centuries. His highest score of 201 was against Pakistan. He also represented India in 15 One Day Internationals, tallying 269 runs at an average of 20.69.

Post-retirement, Gaekwad scored 12,136 runs in 206 first-class matches with an impressive average of 41.56, which included 34 centuries and 47 fifties. His best score in first-class cricket was 225 runs. Moreover, Gaekwad played 55 List-A matches, scoring 1601 runs at an average of 32.67. Following his playing days, he turned to coaching and led the Indian cricket team from 1997 to 1999. He also worked for the Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GSFC), retiring in 2000. In June 2018, BCCI honored him with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Notably, Anshuman Gaekwad's father, Dattajirao Gaekwad, also represented India in test cricket.
