Following a resounding victory in the February 2026 elections in Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman is gearing up to take the oath as the nation's next Prime Minister. This historic occasion marks a 'new beginning' in BNP's relations with India, as the party is reportedly preparing to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Furthermore, the BNP might also extend invitations to all regional leaders. Speaking to PTI, Tarique Rahman's foreign affairs advisor, Humayun Kabir, emphasized the need for both countries to reconsider old perceptions.
He stated, 'India must realize that in today's Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League no longer hold power.
The BNP has urged India not to shelter individuals labeled as "terrorists" like Sheikh Hasina, who allegedly tried to destabilize Bangladesh. According to Humayun Kabir, if India acts respectfully under its 'Neighborhood First' policy, both nations could explore new dimensions of development.
