Since Sheikh Hasina's ousting, an anti-India agenda runs rampant in Bangladesh. Now, the interim government strives to reject a historic truth recognized globally. For over 53 years, Bangladesh itself has sung this tale. We are indeed discussing the pivotal role of India in Bangladesh's emergence as an independent nation.

The world acknowledges the crucial role India played in Bangladesh's formation. Without India's efforts, the dream of an independent Bangladesh might have remained unrealized. However, current Bangladeshi leaders are so engulfed in animosity that they attempt to refute the history of December 16, 1971, when 90,000 Pakistani soldiers kneeled in surrender before India, leading to Bangladesh's victory over Pakistan.

Questions Raised on India's Role by Bangladesh...

India and Bangladesh both commemorate December 16 as Victory Day. In Bangladesh, grand celebrations mark this date since it signifies their triumph. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered this historic day with a post on X, stating, 'We honor the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers who facilitated India's historic win in 1971.' Bangladesh objected to this post by PM Modi.

What did Bangladesh Say?

In the interim government of Bangladesh, Law Minister Asif Nazrul stated that the victory of 1971 was primarily Bangladesh's, with India merely playing a supportive role. Alongside his statement, Nazrul shared a screenshot of PM Modi's post. Similarly, Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had similar remarks, questioning India's role and citing the book by former Indian Foreign Secretary J.N. Dixit.

Bangladesh's Accusations

Through a Facebook post, the Bangladeshi Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused India of intentionally keeping General MAG Osmani, Commander of the Joint Command of Bangladesh, away from the Pakistani surrender ceremony, referencing J.N. Dixit's book 'Liberation and Beyond: Indo-Bangladesh Relations.' The post stated that the book mentions this as a major political error by India.

What Bangladesh is Hiding

The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry's accusations omit a crucial fact. It's true that General Osmani was not at the surrender spot, but this wasn't due to any obstruction. J.N. Dixit's book details the rest of the story. It states that General Osmani's helicopter took off for the ceremony but failed to reach Dhaka by the time of surrender due to losing its way, necessitating Indian soldiers to sign the surrender documents. Had General Osmani been present, many political misunderstandings could have been averted.

On December 16, Lieutenant General A.K. Niazi, head of Pakistan's Eastern Command, signed the surrender documents in front of General Jagjit Singh Aurora, head of the Indian Army's Eastern Command.
