The situation in Bangladesh cricket is rapidly deteriorating. The country's top and domestic players have openly taken a stand against the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). They have threatened that if BCB Director and Finance Committee Chairman Najmul Islam does not resign immediately, they will cease all cricket activities, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and domestic tournaments.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, an emergency online press conference was held by the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), where player representative and senior cricketer Mohammad Mithun clearly stated that M. Najmul Islam's statements had crossed all acceptable boundaries.

The situation escalated when M. Najmul Islam, while speaking to the media, declared that if Bangladesh doesn't participate in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, only players would suffer financially, and the board will not compensate for their losses. CWAB termed his comments not only disrespectful but also morale-breaking for the players.

CWAB Chairman Mohammad Mithun stated, 'The board director's words are extremely disrespectful to players. We've stayed silent repeatedly, but the limit has been reached. This anger is not just about a single statement; players' frustration has been building for months. If Najmul Islam does not resign before the January 15 BPL match, we will boycott all cricket activities nationwide.'

Following the players' threat, the Bangladesh Cricket Board acted swiftly. The board issued an official statement saying, 'Najmul Islam's remarks do not reflect the official stance of the board. The board regrets any inappropriate and disrespectful comments. Players are the backbone and most important part of the board.' It was M. Najmul Islam who labeled Tamim Iqbal as an 'Indian Agent,' after which Bangladeshi players heavily criticized him.

All eyes are now on the BPL match to be held on January 15. Will Bangladesh cricket come to a halt? The situation is extremely serious. If Najmul Islam does not resign, the BPL could be suspended, domestic tournaments postponed, and the national team's training camp disrupted. Now, Bangladeshi fans are eagerly looking at the BPL match to see what direction Bangladesh cricket will take next.
