Tarique Rahman's First Post-Election Statement: Respecting People's Mandate

The results of the general elections in Bangladesh are in. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has secured a massive victory, soon to form the government. For the first time since the victory, BNP leader and Prime Minister candidate Tarique Rahman addressed the media and extended his gratitude to the public. He called for unity among all parties.

Addressing the nation and journalists both nationally and internationally, Tarique Rahman expressed that the people of Bangladesh have trusted in democracy and freedom, leading to BNP's victory once again.

He emphasized that this triumph is not only of the BNP party but also of the people of Bangladesh. It's a victory for those who sacrificed for the fight for democracy.

Tarique Rahman stated that true freedom and rights are being restored in the country today. Congratulating the public, he acknowledged that people have cleared the path for establishing democracy despite all barriers. This is a new chapter where the voice of the people is paramount, and governance will be more accountable.

He accepted that the new government is taking charge at a time when the economy is fragile, constitutional and statutory institutions have become ineffective, and the law and order situation is concerning. During this challenging period, the government has significant responsibilities that must be fulfilled.

Tarique Rahman further elaborated that, after more than a decade and a half, a parliament and government accountable to the people are being formed through elections. He emphasized preventing any recurrence of autocracy and ensuring Bangladesh does not become a subordinate state, urging unity among all sectors.

He shared that a total of 51 political parties participated in this election, including Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, and Gono Odhikar Parishad. All parties, regardless of the outcomes, were congratulated.
