The forest department team in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, has achieved a significant milestone by capturing the fifth wolf. Now, the hunt is on for the sixth and last man-eating wolf, which is believed to be limping. It is expected that it will be caught soon. It is known that these wolves have already claimed eight lives and injured dozens of people.

The officials from the forest department in Bahraich have reported that the fifth wolf was captured on Tuesday under the ongoing 'Operation Wolf' in Mahsi tehsil of the district. This operation aims to capture the pack of six wolves, which have taken eight lives and injured more than 20 people since mid-July.

Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh informed the news agency that the fifth man-eating wolf was captured near the Ghaghra River in Harbhanspur village. He said, "Now, the last wolf of the pack, which is limping, is left. It is expected that it will also be caught soon."

According to Ajit Pratap Singh, the forest department team found the footprints of the wolf in the area on Monday night. Since they couldn't operate at night, four teams arrived in the morning and cordoned off the area. The wolf tried to escape but got trapped in the net laid by the forest department. With the villagers' help, the forest workers captured the wolf and locked it in a cage.

The Sixth Wolf is Limping

It is noteworthy that the forest department team captured the fourth wolf of the pack on August 29. The remaining wolves became cautious and have eluded capture since then. Currently, the forest department team is searching for the last sixth wolf, which is believed to be limping and the leader of their group.

The divisional forest officer mentioned that the danger will persist until the limping wolf is caught. Since July 17, the 'Operation Wolf' aims to capture the pack of six wolves that are terrorizing fifty villages in Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich district. Meanwhile, District Magistrate Monika Rani reported on September 2 that at least eight people, including seven children, have died in the suspected wolf attacks.

To capture these man-eating wolves in Bahraich, about 25 teams from five forest divisions, Bahraich, Katarniaghat Wildlife, Shravasti, Gonda, and Barabanki, are involved. Earlier, 200 policemen and sharpshooters assigned to shoot on sight were deployed in these villages to protect people from the wolves.

While Bahraich's DFO claims the total number of wolves to be six, the affected villagers estimate the number to be around two dozen. The fear of wolves has created such an environment that people stay awake all night to keep vigil over the village.
