Following Gaurav Gogoi's victory, Assam Congress leader Bhupen Bora has called for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's resignation. In fact, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the BJP would win all five seats in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Responding to this, Bhupen Bora has suggested that if Gaurav Gogoi emerges victorious in the Jorhat constituency, then Himanta Biswa Sarma should step down.

Criticism of CM Sarma's Dance Moves

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Assam Congress President Bhupen Bora addressed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, remarking on his assertion that BJP would secure all five seats in the first voting phase. Bora challenged him, saying if Gaurav Gogoi wins in Jorhat, Sarma should resign. Furthermore, Bora criticized Sarma's dance moves during the campaigns, suggesting that if the Chief Minister wishes to entertain, he should consider joining films. Bora noted that nearly all of the CM’s campaign meetings end with a dance to the BJP’s theme song, 'Akou Ebar Modi Sarkar' which translates to 'Once More, Modi Government'.

The Congress leader questioned during a press conference, 'The CM is claiming that BJP will win all the upper Assam seats. I directly challenge him, if Gaurav Gogoi wins in Jorhat, will he resign?'

Election voting took place on April 19th in the first phase for seats in Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Kaziranga, Sonitpur, and Jorhat. In Jorhat, the competition lies between Gaurav Gogoi and the BJP's current member of parliament Tapan Kumar Gogoi. Notably, no BJP national face appeared in Jorhat for the campaign. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led the entire election campaign, doing multiple road shows covering all 10 assembly segments of the electoral constituency. BJP state ministers like Piyush Hazarika and Jayant Malla Baruah set camp in Jorhat, along with several MLAs who stayed there for a considerable time.

Sarbananda Sonowal faces competition from Assam Jatiya Parishad's Lurinjyoti Gogoi. Meanwhile, in Dibrugarh, Manoj Dhanowar of the Aam Aadmi Party could turn the tide. Bora claimed that Congress would lead in 40 out of the 48 assembly seats in the five parliamentary constituencies where the first phase of voting occurred.

Congress leader questions, 'Why does the Chief Minister dance at every meeting?

Questioning the Assam Chief Minister’s campaign methods, the Congress leader asked, 'Why does the Chief Minister dance at every meeting? He throws the mic away and just dances. He doesn't speak about price hikes, unemployment, the CAA, the Assam Accord, or labor issues.' Bora alleged that Sarma only dances to distract people from the real issues. 'His dance moves have nothing to do with Assam's traditional dances. If he genuinely wants to entertain, then he should join films. Why is he in politics?' Bora expressed his astonishment if anywhere in the country, any other BJP Chief Minister would choose to dance during election campaigning instead of addressing issues that affect the public. He went so far as to say that Sarma has lost his mental balance.
