Swati Maliwal's Alleged Assault by Vibhav Kumar: An Overview of the Charges

The Civil Lines Police in Delhi have lodged an FIR against Arvind Kejriwal's private secretary, Vibhav Kumar. Rajya Sabha parliamentarian Swati Maliwal has leveled allegations of assault against Kejriwal's associate Vibhav. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also summoned him on Friday in relation to the matter.

Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has become embroiled in controversy following a reported incident of misconduct with Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal at his residence, leading to police filing an FIR. Swati has made serious allegations against Kejriwal's personal secretary, Vibhav Kumar, accusing him of assault. The complaint identifies Vibhav as the sole accused. Swati claims she was physically attacked, kicked, and beaten on her body. She has also detailed a PCR call made to Delhi Police four days prior to this complaint.

The Delhi Police filed an FIR on Thursday under charges of assault, molestation, and intimidation, and conducted a medical examination of Swati late into the night. Arrangements are now being made for her statement to be recorded in front of a magistrate. The police have intensified their search for Vibhav Kumar and are preparing for questioning. The NCW has likewise summoned Vibhav for Friday.

Swati Maliwal's visit to CM Kejriwal's residence

On 13th May, Swati Maliwal visited CM Arvind Kejriwal's residence to meet with him. In her complaint, Swati stated that while she was waiting in the drawing-room, Vibhav committed an act of misconduct towards her without provocation. This prompted Swati to call the PCR and inform the police, after which she also visited the police station. Although she initially left stating she would return with a written complaint later on.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women sent a notice to Delhi Police, demanding an action-taken report within three days. In line with preparing this report, a two-member team led by Additional Police Commissioner P.S. Kushwah visited Swati Maliwal's residence in Central Delhi on Thursday. The police team spent around four and a half hours at her home, after which Swati provided the details of the 13th May incident in a written application. Presently, senior officers at police headquarters are consulting with legal experts over Swati's complaint.
