Swati Maliwal Assault Case
: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has issued a statement on the assault case involving AAP MP Swati Maliwal, questioning the silence of Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
In Kolkata, Sitharaman expressed shock that Chief Minister Kejriwal has not uttered a word about the assault on Maliwal, which took place at his residence. The CM has neither responded to nor taken action on the incident.
Sitharaman added that instead, Kejriwal was spotted at the Lucknow airport with the accused Vibhav Kumar on Wednesday. She has been informed that the CM was seen in Uttar Pradesh with the accused, which is utterly shameful considering that the woman involved has served as the chairperson of the Delhi Women's Commission, and was treated this way.
What are the allegations against Vibhav Kumar?
MP Swati Maliwal has accused Vibhav Kumar, a close associate of Kejriwal, of assault at the CM's residence. Party leader Sanjay Singh later stated that CM Kejriwal has taken cognizance of the incident with Maliwal and will take stern action.
Sanjay Singh reported that Maliwal had come to meet CM Kejriwal on Monday. She was waiting in the drawing room when Vibhav Kumar arrived and behaved inappropriately with her.
Previously, Delhi Police stated on Monday that Maliwal had visited the Civil Lines station and accused a member of CM Kejriwal's staff of assault at the CM's house. However, Maliwal has yet to file a written complaint. The police have said that the investigation will proceed only after a formal complaint is received.
