On Wednesday, Home Minister Amit Shah took a firm stance against Congress, asserting that he could not even dream of disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar. During a press conference, Shah mentioned the celebration of 75 years of the Constitution in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, highlighting the nation's journey of pride, progress, and achievements. Acknowledging the nature of parliamentary debates involving diverse perspectives, he emphasized the importance of factual and truthful discussions. Shah expressed his strong condemnation of Congress for distorting facts.
The Home Minister explained that accusations emerged as BJP speakers identified Congress as an anti-Ambedkar party and one opposed to the Constitution. He reproached Congress for derogating Savarkar and imposing the Emergency, crushing the Constitution. He highlighted Congress' disrespect to Indian armed forces and their negligence in honoring Dr. Ambedkar despite his passing. Even in the numerous works of Nehru, Dr. Ambedkar was not accorded his rightful place.
Amit Shah Accuses Congress of Distortion
Amit Shah accused Congress of not awarding the Bharat Ratna to Dr. Ambedkar. Nehru, he argued, awarded it to himself in 1955 and Indira Gandhi did the same in 1971. However, Dr. Ambedkar was only conferred the Bharat Ratna in 1990, after Congress was no longer in power, and it took a government supported by the BJP to recognize him. Until then, Congress made continual efforts to withhold this honor.
He referenced Nehru’s book 'Selected Works of Jawahar Lal Nehru', highlighting instances where, despite assurances, Dr. Ambedkar was not given important responsibilities. Shah pointed out clear mentions of Ambedkar’s opposition to government policies, notably in foreign affairs, defense, and policies affecting the scheduled castes and tribes. His opposition to Article 370 was also noted. Shah expressed grief over Congress using AI-edited video during elections to mislead the public. Claiming misinformation spread by Congress, Shah firmly articulated that he could never voice against Dr. Ambedkar, even in sleep. He criticized Congress for not implementing the Mandal Commission report, further noting Rajiv Gandhi's extensive speech against OBC reservations as opposition leader.
'Spreading Misconceptions in Dr. Ambedkar's Name'
Criticizing Congress, Shah remarked that those who never honored Dr. Ambedkar during their lifetime are now spreading misconceptions in his name. He addressed Mallikarjun Kharge, condemning the pressure from Rahul Gandhi that forced him to partake in malicious endeavors. Congress, misrepresenting Shah’s speech, presented a partial narrative. He challenged them to provide his complete remarks, ensuring clarity and fairness. Shah also reflected on demands for his resignation, expressing awareness of edited speeches and misinformation being circulated. BJP, committed to pursuing all legal avenues, intends to address these misrepresentations both in and outside of Parliament.
The Indian Parliament marked 75 years since the adoption of the Constitution, highlighting the nation's progress and achievements. Amit Shah and other leaders participated in debates.
Contensions arose over historical Bharat Ratna recognitions, with accusations pointing to Congress and their oversight regarding Dr. Ambedkar until 1990.
Following allegations of misrepresentation and fake news, the BJP considered exploring various legal recourses against Congress while maintaining integrity.
