Last evening, an entire family of four was brutally murdered in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. This horrifying crime, which did not spare even the young girls of the family, has sent shockwaves across the region. Upon hearing the news, the SP and DM rushed to the scene, followed by senior officials including the IG and ADG. They have vowed to swiftly apprehend the culprits.
Let's delve into the full story of this atrocity...
In Amethi's Shivratanganj area, Dalit government teacher Sunil Kumar, along with his wife and two daughters, were shot dead in their rented home. The crime scene was one of utter brutality, with authorities finding the bloodied bodies scattered across the house.
The police report detailed that the slain family resided at a rented house near the Ahorewa Bhawani intersection in Amethi. Sunil Kumar was serving as an assistant teacher at a composite school and originally hailed from Gadaha village in Raebareli. Having recently been transferred, they had just moved to this location.
Victims of this horrific incident, teacher Sunil Kumar, his wife Poonam Bharti, and their daughters—4-year-old Lado and 1.5-year-old Srishti—were mercilessly shot. The crime scene, capable of making one's hair stand on end, appeared to convey a motive far beyond mere robbery.
Why is Chandan Verma's Name Surfacing?
Post-massacre, critical details have emerged. Police unearthed a previous FIR from August 18, 2024, filed by Sunil's wife, Poonam Bharti, accusing Chandan Verma of indecent behavior and assault, along with using derogatory language. The FIR claims Chandan had earlier threatened to kill them.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred when Poonam was at Raebareli’s Sumitra Hospital with her child. It describes how Chandan Verma, hailing from Raebareli, assaulted her and later threatened her husband, Sunil, with grievous harm. Poonam specified in the FIR that Chandan would be accountable should harm befall her or her husband in the future.
Currently, based on the account of Sunil Kumar's father, a case has been filed against Chandan Verma under BNS Section 103(1) at the Shivratanganj police station. Meanwhile, authorities are exploring multiple angles in the investigation.
What Did Amethi SP Anoop Singh Reveal?
