Meanwhile, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared its unwavering commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests. According to a Reuters report, they urged the U.S. to cease leveraging tariffs as a tool to hinder China's economy and trade and undermine the legitimate developmental rights of the Chinese people.
Notably, Trump escalated the U.S. tariff on Chinese goods by 34% earlier this week, bringing this year's total duties on Chinese imports to 54%. The move prompted an immediate counteraction from Beijing, announcing a 34% tariff on all U.S. products. The Chinese tariffs are set to be implemented from April 10. Reacting to Beijing's decision, Trump stated on Wednesday, "China took the wrong step, they got jittery - something they can't afford."
