U.S. President Donald Trump firmly defended his decision to impose substantial tariffs on Chinese goods, stating that America had become a powerless target in global trade. This bold remark came amid China's stern warning to the U.S. against using tariffs as an economic weapon, escalating tensions in the high-stakes trade standoff between the world's two largest economies.

Trump declared, "China has been hit far harder than the U.S. Many nations have shown us unfair treatment. We've been victims for too long, but no more. My administration is reversing years of economic neglect."

Trump imposed an additional 34% tariff on Chinese goods, sparking a swift response from Beijing.

He emphasized, "Jobs and businesses are returning more than ever. Over $5 trillion has already been invested, and it's set to accelerate. This is an economic revolution, and we will emerge victorious. Patience is required; it won't be easy, but history will be made in the end. We're making America great again."

Meanwhile, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared its unwavering commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests. According to a Reuters report, they urged the U.S. to cease leveraging tariffs as a tool to hinder China's economy and trade and undermine the legitimate developmental rights of the Chinese people.

Notably, Trump escalated the U.S. tariff on Chinese goods by 34% earlier this week, bringing this year's total duties on Chinese imports to 54%. The move prompted an immediate counteraction from Beijing, announcing a 34% tariff on all U.S. products. The Chinese tariffs are set to be implemented from April 10. Reacting to Beijing's decision, Trump stated on Wednesday, "China took the wrong step, they got jittery - something they can't afford."
