Following the terror attack in Pahalgam, security agencies are on high alert. Preparations have commenced for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, with sources indicating that the Director-General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is visiting Jammu and Kashmir to assess the security strategies for the major routes of the pilgrimage and oversee arrangements in Pahalgam and Baltal.
According to insiders, the CRPF DG, collaborating with state police and other security bodies, is conducting an aerial survey of the primary routes designated for the Amarnath Yatra, commencing on July 3.
The aim of the visit is to review critical measures required to assure the safety of pilgrims visiting the Amarnath cave and to forge strategies for handling any potential threats.
The recent assault in Pahalgam has once again brought to light the challenges concerning security in the valley, prompting authorities and forces to spare no effort in ensuring the safety of the Amarnath Yatra.
This visit by the CRPF DG is considered a pivotal step towards guaranteeing a safe and seamless experience for the pilgrims during the journey.
Enhanced vigilance along the yatra’s routes and increased deployment of security forces at sensitive locations are part of the agencies’ strategy. Concrete actions will be based on insights gathered during the DG's visit to further bolster security frameworks.
On April 22, terrorists targeted visitors in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, selectively killing 26 tourists based on their religion. In retaliation, the Indian Army struck 9 terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir with missiles, leading to significant damages. The Pakistani army attempted, without success, to retaliate by targeting Indian cities and military positions. The Indian military effectively countered, inflicting considerable damage on Pakistani air forces during their defensive operations.
