The terror attack in Pahalgam directly impacted this year's Amarnath Yatra, with fear gripping the devotees after the Baisaran Valley incident. This fear has led to a sudden decrease in the number of registrations for the pilgrimage.
Before April 22, around 235,000 devotees had registered for the 38-day pilgrimage. However, when the administration reached out to confirm participation after the Pahalgam attack, only 85,000 confirmed their intention to proceed with the yatra.
Decrease in Registration Numbers for the Pilgrimage
Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, confirmed extensive security arrangements to ensure the pilgrimage proceeds safely and peacefully. Devotees will be given RFID tags, and e-KYC checks will be performed. Security forces will be deployed based on new threat assessments.
Devotees are advised to travel in designated security convoys from Jammu and avoid traveling alone. Additionally, followers are urged to adhere to advisories issued periodically by security agencies.
Fear Among People Post-Pahalgam Attack
Addressing questions about security concerns stemming from three Pakistani terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured that the administration is prepared to handle all threats effectively.
