Former UP minister Amanmani Tripathi, A man with a Herculean lineage, has joined the Congress party on Saturday. Avinash Pandey, Congress General Secretary, officially inducted him. Speculations suggest that Tripathi might be fielded from the Maharajganj seat.
Sharing the news on social media platform X, Avinash Pandey said, "Ex-MLA of Nautanwa, Amanmani Tripathi has expressed faith in Rahul Gandhi’s justice battle by embracing Congress Party membership."
Last year, Amanmani was expelled from BSP due to allegations of anti-party activities. It is believed that Congress might consider him for the Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat, which is now part of the SP-Congress alliance.
Amanmani, Son of Amarmani
Amanmani is the progeny of Amarmani Tripathi, previously a minister in UP, found guilty along with his wife in Madhumita Shukla's murder case. Tripathi family has been deeply engrossed in Maharajganj's politics, and Amanmani's inclusion in Congress is poised to recalibrate the political dynamics of the region.
2012 Marked His First Electoral Battle with SP
In 2012, Amanmani contested the elections for the Nautanwa seat with the Samajwadi Party's ticket but lost to Congress's Kunwar Kaushal Kishore. In 2015, a tragic road accident led to the death of his wife Sara and his subsequent arrest. SP denied him a ticket in 2017.
No SP Ticket in 2017
Facing allegations for his wife’s murder, SP withdrew his candidacy. However, he contested independently and won. He served as the MLA from Nautanwa from 2017-2022. Later, he joined BSP and contested 2022 elections but faced defeat.
BSP Shows Him the Door
During the UP municipal elections, BSP ousted Amanmani due to alleged anti-party activities. His candidature from Maharajganj is being debated, though Congress’s Supriya Shrinate is also considered a contender for the seat after her 2019 electoral defeat.
