An Air India spokesperson released a statement saying, 'On December 22, the crew operating flight AI 887 from Delhi to Mumbai decided to return to Delhi immediately after takeoff due to a technical issue, following standard operating procedures. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers and crew members have been deboarded. Air India apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this unexpected scenario.'

The spokesperson further stated, 'Necessary inspections of the aircraft are being conducted to identify the cause of the fault. The Air India ground team in Delhi is providing immediate assistance to stranded passengers, and the company has arranged alternative means to ensure passengers reach Mumbai as soon as possible.'

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken note of this incident.
