Among the passengers was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, whose death was confirmed by Gujarat BJP President C.R. Patil. According to reports, Vijay Rupani was traveling to London to meet his wife Anjali and daughter. Senior BJP leader Sunil Jakhar expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. He said it was extremely saddening to learn that Vijay Rupani was on the ill-fated Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad today.

Sunil Jakhar stated, "Vijay Rupani's contributions as Gujarat's Chief Minister will always be remembered. He was a humble, sensitive, and grounded leader. I was fortunate to work with him when he was in charge of Punjab BJP. Truly, he was a 'gentleman politician.' Gujarat has lost a great leader, and for me, it is a personal loss as his gentle nature left a lasting impression on me. His wisdom and simplicity in public life will always be appreciated. 204 Bodies Recovered So Far

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik informed Aaj Tak that 204 bodies have been recovered so far, with 41 injured individuals receiving treatment in hospitals. He mentioned that rescue and relief operations are underway, as there is a possibility of more people trapped in the rubble. The figures are preliminary, and final confirmation will follow.

The Ahmedabad Civil Hospital administration has initiated DNA sampling of the victims' relatives to ensure identification of those killed in the crash. Health Department Principal Secretary Dhananjay Dwivedi stated that a special facility has been organized at B.J. Medical College's forensic department for this purpose.

Flight Collided with Medical College Building

According to eyewitnesses, shortly after takeoff, the flight lost altitude and first struck the mess building of B.J. Medical College. The crash also impacted the nearby Atulya Hostel, home to senior resident doctors. This collision resulted in fires in these buildings, and several individuals sustained serious injuries. The military, municipal officers, and medical teams are working tirelessly to expedite the rescue efforts.
