The Foreign Minister of the Afghan Taliban government, Amir Khan Muttaqi, is on a visit to India. He met with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar today, and during this meeting, he also made a statement regarding Bagram Airbase.
Muttaqi asserted that they will not hand over Bagram Airbase to anyone. Afghanistan will not allow its land to be used against any country. If anyone wishes to establish relations with us, they must come through diplomatic missions, not in military uniforms. This is non-negotiable at any cost.
He added that not an inch of Afghan land is under anyone's control. In the past four years, every foreign presence has been removed. In the last eight months, there hasn't even been a minor incident in Afghanistan. We have not caused any harm to any nation in these years.
In fact, US President Donald Trump stated last month that he wants the US-built Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan back.
On Friday, Muttaqi also met with Foreign Minister Jaishankar. During this meeting, discussions were held about reopening the Indian embassy in Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Jaishankar announced this in the bilateral meeting with Taliban government’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Both parties agreed to boost cooperation in trade, development, and security sectors. It's noteworthy that India had closed its embassy after the Taliban took power in 2021.
Muttaqi arrived in Delhi on Thursday for a week-long visit. This marks the first visit from Kabul to Delhi since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in August 2021.
