An alliance between the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress might be in the cards for the Haryana assembly elections. Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh made a significant statement on Rahul Gandhi's offer to contest the Haryana elections together.
Sanjay Singh said, 'I welcome Rahul Gandhi's statement. Defeating BJP is our priority. However, the decision will be made with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's agreement.'
Notably, Haryana's 90 assembly seats will go to polls on October 5. The Congress party is currently in deep contemplation over this. On Monday, the Congress Election Committee met and finalized the names of 34 candidates for the Haryana assembly elections.
Deepak Babaria, the AICC in-charge for Haryana, mentioned that the final list would be released by Wednesday. He also said that speculation surrounding Vinesh Phogat would be settled by Tuesday.
The state screening committee has presented a list of 49 names, out of which 34 have been approved, and 15 are pending. Tickets have been confirmed for 22 sitting MLAs.
For Haryana’s assembly elections, voting will take place on October 5. All 90 seats will be voted on in a single phase. Initially, voting was scheduled for October 1, but it was rescheduled due to the centuries-old Bishnoi community festival, Asoj Amavasya. The results will be announced on October 8, alongside those of the Jammu and Kashmir elections.
The tenure of Haryana's 90-seat assembly ends on November 3. In the last election, BJP failed to secure a majority. Subsequently, it formed the government in alliance with Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). However, the BJP-JJP coalition split in March this year. Currently, NDA holds 43 seats and the India Bloc holds 42 seats in Haryana.
