After bringing a dog in her vehicle into the Parliament complex, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury seems to be surrounded by controversy. It's revealed that a privilege motion could be brought against her in the Rajya Sabha. However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sarcastically commented on the controversy saying, it seems this has become the topic of discourse today. When Renuka Chowdhury was asked about this in the Parliament complex on Wednesday,
'A privilege motion is being brought against you', she replied 'Woof Woof...' and left.
BJP MP Reaction
Notably, on the first day of the Winter Session, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury arrived at Parliament with her pet dog in her car, leading to intensified controversy. The BJP demanded action against her. In response to this reaction,
Ghaziabad’s BJP MP Atul Garg said this is nothing new, Renuka Chowdhury has been famous for her voices.
What did Renuka Chowdhury Say?
Speaking to Aaj Tak about the pet incident, Renuka Chowdhury said, 'What’s the harm? If a mute animal comes inside, what’s the issue? It's so tiny. It's not the one to bite, there are others inside Parliament who do.' On this matter, BJP MP Jagdambika Pal expressed strong reactions and demanded action against Renuka Chowdhury. Pal remarked if a MP is given some privilege, it should not be misused.
He stated, "This is a place to discuss the country's policies... bringing a dog and making such statements embarrasses the nation... actions should be taken against her." He termed it as a breach of democracy and an insult to Parliament.
'Rescued on the Way'
It has been revealed that Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury brought the pet to Parliament on the first day of the Winter Session because she rescued it on the way. This issue became the cause of the dispute, with the BJP expressing strong objections.
What Did Renuka Chowdhury Say?
Renuka Chowdhury explained that after an accident between a scooter and a car, a small puppy was wandering scared on the road. Fearing it might get injured by other vehicles, she brought it into her car, took it to Parliament, and later sent it home. Reacting sharply to the BJP raising the issue of security breach, she said: “What’s the point of this discussion? The real biters are inside Parliament… Helping a mute creature becomes a big issue.”
Why Did BJP Criticize?
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal labeled it “drama,” stating bringing any person or creature into the Parliament complex without proper documentation is incorrect. He termed it a violation of Parliament's rules and dignity, demanding action.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also alleged that Renuka Chowdhury insulted MPs and staff with her statement. He stated that Congress is finding new ways to “dramatize” events in Parliament, and she should apologize.
