Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates History in Youth ODI, Surpasses Virat Kohli

Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to dazzle on the cricket field with his outstanding performances. The young prodigy, currently representing India in the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup 2026, showcased his skills on January 17th (Saturday) in Bulawayo, achieving a stellar 72 runs against Bangladesh. During his 67-ball innings, Vaibhav struck six boundaries and three towering sixes. His impressive run was ended by fast bowler Iqbal Hossain Emon.

In this innings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi achieved an extraordinary milestone. Not only did he surpass the 1000-run mark in Youth ODI, but he also climbed to seventh position on the list of highest run-scorers among Indian batsmen in this format, even surpassing the legendary Virat Kohli, who had tallied 978 runs.

To date, Vaibhav has played 20 matches in Youth ODIs for India, accumulating 1047 runs at an impressive average of 52.35, including three centuries and five half-centuries. After a brief setback of being dismissed for just 2 runs against the USA, Vaibhav made a powerful comeback with a rapid fifty against Bangladesh, leaving everyone in awe.

The record for the highest run-scorer in Youth ODI for India is held by Vijay Zol, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tanmay Srivastava, Unmukt Chand, Shubman Gill, and Sarfaraz Khan, all having surpassed the thousand-run mark in Youth ODIs. The world record in Youth ODI stands at 1820 runs by Bangladesh's Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi first thrust into the limelight after his explosive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, becoming the youngest centurion in IPL history and capturing global attention. His career trajectory continued upward, with centuries on challenging pitches in England and Australia. His debut century for India-A in the Rising Stars Asia Cup in Qatar and headlines-making performance during the U19 Asia Cup in Dubai further solidified his reputation.
