Leaders of Shiv Sena (UBT), Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya Thackeray, engaged in a significant meeting with Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar at the legislative complex in Nagpur on Tuesday. Aaditya Thackeray later shared with the media that he and his father extended their best wishes to both Fadnavis and Narvekar.
He stated, 'We discussed showcasing political maturity and working cooperatively for the welfare of Maharashtra's populace.' Aaditya further clarified that the meeting did not touch upon the role of the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the assembly.
Accompanying Uddhav in the meeting were Shiv Sena (UBT) legislators Anil Parab and Varun Sardesai. This encounter occurred in Fadnavis's chamber during the ongoing winter session of the state's legislature in Nagpur.
In the 15th Assembly of Maharashtra, currently, there is no designated Leader of Opposition (LoP), as the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition failed to secure 10% seats in the assembly polls. Shiv Sena (UBT) managed 20 seats, Congress gained 16, while NCP (SP) fought for 10 seats.
Uddhav Thackeray, a member of the state's Legislative Council, arrived in Nagpur on Tuesday to participate in the winter session. He also mentioned his plan to attend the Shiv Sena (UBT) legislative party meeting.
The dynamics between Devendra Fadnavis and Uddhav Thackeray deteriorated significantly post-2019, when Shiv Sena, prior to its division, parted ways with BJP over the disagreement on sharing the Chief Ministerial position. Subsequently, Shiv Sena allied with Congress and NCP to form the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA). During election campaigns, Uddhav had vociferously criticized Fadnavis and the BJP leadership.
In the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the grand coalition of BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP clinched 230 out of 288 seats, while the opposition MVA was reduced to merely 46 seats.
