An astonishing case emerged from Banda, Uttar Pradesh, where a man faced a shocking extortion call. The fraudster, posing as a police officer from the SP Office Banda, threatened, 'Your wife has filed a case against you. Send money to this number if you want to close the case.'
The bewildered man, accompanied by his wife, reported to the police. The authorities, acting on the complaint, charged the scammer under serious offenses and traced his phone number. Surveillance and technical evidence led to his arrest.
The scam involved demanding ₹50,000 under the guise of case resolution. The police investigation is ongoing in the Bisanda police district. A local reported receiving a call where the unnamed scammer claimed to be from the SP Office, demanding money to settle a supposed lawsuit filed by his wife.
The victim, facing threats of jail time and unable to pay, bravely reported to the police station. Officer Shyambabu Shukla immediately took cognizance and initiated an investigation.
It was discovered that the accused used the UP Cop APP to make calls based on FIR information. They threatened victims with legal action and intimidated suspects to extract money.
Police have arrested one individual and are pursuing the entire gang. ASP Lakshmi Niwas Mishra confirmed the arrest of the Tikamgarh resident. The organized gang consists of more than two dozen members who have preyed upon numerous people.
