When the bodies of two family members killed in the Mahakumbh stampede arrived in Gorakhpur, the household was engulfed in grief. The family mourned the loss of their daughter-in-law and grandmother amidst the chaos of the Mahakumbh stampede. Without notifying anyone, the family's guardian brought their loved ones' bodies from Prayagraj back to Gorakhpur, leaving the already financially struggling family in despair.

Originally from Bhavpur village in Gorakhpur's Chauri-Chaura constituency, Lali Devi journeyed to Prayagraj with her mother and husband to take a holy dip on the auspicious day of Mauni Amavasya. Tragically, Lali Devi and her mother were crushed to death in the ensuing stampede, while Lali's husband sustained injuries at the scene.

On Thursday afternoon, chaos and mourning erupted in the village as the deceased's bodies were brought back to Gorakhpur. Avinash, the son, told 'Aajtak' that his father had not informed the family about the incident at Mahakumbh. He quietly returned home with the bodies. We performed the cremation with tearful eyes.

Meanwhile, Lali Devi's mother-in-law was inconsolable over her daughter-in-law's death and spoke about the family's dire situation. She expressed her anguish, lamenting over the future of the now-orphaned children. She wondered who would cook, who would ensure their marriages - the uncertainty and worry tore at her heart.

The Mahakumbh at Prayagraj on Mauni Amavasya attracted a vast flood of devotees, a solemn occasion turned into tragedy. As the barricades along the Sangam broke, panic ensued with people falling over each other, leading to a catastrophic stampede. The accident claimed the lives of 30 devotees and left 60 injured, while many remain missing. Families are still searching for their loved ones.
