In a tragic turn of events, a tourist from Odisha was killed during a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. According to current reports, approximately 26 people lost their lives in this incident. Prashant Satpathy, a resident of Balasore, Odisha, was shot during the chaos.

According to sources, the victim's elder brother, Sushant Satpathy, received the harrowing news around 3 PM. Having called a toll-free number for information, he was informed of his younger brother's untimely death. No details, however, were available about his brother's wife or his nephew's whereabouts, adding to the family's distress. An additional DSP has been in contact with me about the situation."

Family Vacation Ends in Tragedy

The family was on a vacation escapade to the enchanting Baisaran Valley, popularly known as 'Mini Switzerland', when the unthinkable happened. As suspected militants began firing upon a group of tourists, Prashant was struck by a bullet amidst the sudden chaos, leaving his wife and son deeply traumatized and struggling to cope with the aftermath of this horrific event.

Security forces, including the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces, rapidly moved in to secure the area following the attack. A coordinated search operation was launched to trace the attackers. Helicopters were deployed in evacuation efforts, while local residents assisted in transporting victims from the highland grasslands.

The Responsibility for the attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. Officials have described the incident as one of the most brutal attacks on civilians in the region in recent times.
