In Kanpur's Sisamau, the tragic fall of a child into a drain prompted a flurry of questions aimed at the municipal corporation. In response, BJP Mayor Pramila Pandey sprang into action, visiting local settlements last Friday with her team to clear encroachments. Upon hearing the news, the newly elected SP MLA Naseem Solanki made her way to the site as well. The two engaged in a light exchange, the video of which soon made rounds on social media.
In earnest conversation, SP MLA Naseem Solanki entreated Mayor Pramila Pandey for a week's extension. Pandey, with a gentle demeanor and folded hands, replied, 'Son, Daughter-in-law... I salute you, but I can’t afford even a second more. Please withdraw, as your presence will amplify the pressure here. Understand, whether our people or yours, any life lost causes sorrow.'
The incident unfolded as BJP's Mayor Pandey took the initiative to dismantle illegal encroachments from the Eidgah to the VIP road in Sisamau. During this operation, SP's newly elected MLA Naseem Solanki arrived at the spot. Solanki, accompanied by others, demanded a week's reprieve for the bulldozer action but faced a clear refusal from the mayor.
Throughout the exchange, Mayor Pandey affectionately appealed to MLA Solanki to vacate, addressing her with endearing terms like son and daughter-in-law, even folding her hands in request. This scene left Solanki smiling as she subsequently stepped aside.
The moment Solanki departed, the administration proceeded with the demolishment of the illegal structures using a bulldozer. Mayor Pramila Pandey declared her intent to reconstruct the area with boundaries and barriers in place of the illegal possessions.
Meanwhile, MLA Naseem Solanki defended her request, acknowledging the illegal nature of the shanties but insisted they be granted a short grace period to avert difficulties during the cold season. She also pointed out that the notice was given one day and action taken the next—suggesting that a longer notice period would have been more appropriate.
