Bangladesh is currently engulfed in communal tensions, which have worsened following the arrest of Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das. Responding to the attacks on Hindus and minorities, Pawan Kalyan shared his thoughts.
Pawan Kalyan, Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, condemned the arrest of Hindu religious leader and ISKCON's chief priest Chinmoy Krishna Das by the Bangladeshi police. He urged everyone to collectively denounce this arrest and called on the Mohammad Yunus-led government in Bangladesh to halt the persecution of Hindus.
He emphasized that our soldiers shed their blood, resources were spent, and lives were sacrificed for the creation of Bangladesh. The current targeting of our Hindu brothers and sisters deeply distresses us. We appeal to the United Nations to intervene in this matter.
India Denounced the Arrest of Chinmoy Das
India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement on Tuesday expressing grave concerns over the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh and the refusal of bail. This incident has surfaced amidst ongoing extremist targeting of Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh. There have been numerous reports of arson, looting, theft, and desecration of Hindu temples, along with vandalism of minority homes and businesses.
The Ministry of External Affairs expressed regret that, instead of apprehending those targeting Hindu minorities, a Hindu priest voicing legitimate demands through peaceful assembly is facing treason charges. We are also concerned about the attacks on peaceful protesters against Chinmoy Krishna Das's arrest. We urge Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, including their right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
The Law Enforcement Agency of Bangladesh arrested Chinmoy Krishna Das on treason charges on November 25. The Bangladeshi court refused him bail on Tuesday, leading to his imprisonment. Subsequently, Chinmoy Das's supporters took to the streets in vehement protests. Ten people, including journalists, were injured during clashes with security personnel.
