The NDA has declared Maharashtra's Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan for the Vice President post. However, the opposition alliance 'India' has yet to reveal its cards and announce a candidate. According to sources, India Block is set to field a common candidate for the upcoming Vice President election.
A meeting with leaders of 'all opposition parties present in parliament' is called today at 12:30 PM at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's residence. It is expected that the candidate's name will be officially announced after the meeting.
Whose Names are Being Discussed?
According to sources, several names are under discussion by India Block's top leaders. Among them is former ISRO scientist Mylswamy Annadurai, who led the Chandrayaan-1 project. The opposition aims to portray this election as a battle for 'democracy and constitutional defense.' Reports hint at DMK MP Tiruchi Siva from Tamil Nadu being among the considered names.
Tushar Gandhi's Name in the Discussions
Additionally, Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and historian, emerged in initial talks to present this election as an ideological struggle against BJP. A Dalit intellectual from Maharashtra is also being considered by the India Block as a Vice President candidate.
Radhakrishnan Meets PM Modi
NDA's Vice President candidate C. P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Delhi on Monday. Various senior BJP leaders and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta were present at the airport to welcome him. A grand welcome was prepared, and Radhakrishnan received a warm reception. After arriving in Delhi, Radhakrishnan also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
