Man Sentenced to Death for 7-Year-Old Girl's Murder After Failed Assault

In 2024, a special POCSO court in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, sentenced a man to death for the murder of a seven-year-old girl. On Wednesday, the court handed down the sentence after finding the man guilty of attempting sexual assault and subsequently murdering the child. According to Additional District Government Advocates Virendra Singh and Pradeep Bharti, after a four-month trial, Special Judge Deepak Kumar Yadav found 22-year-old Jen Alam guilty and sentenced him to death.

The incident occurred on October 18, 2024, when the young girl had left her home in Bilsi town to buy vegetables but never returned. Besides the maximum sentence, the court also imposed a fine of INR 1.75 lakh on the guilty. The girl's family had reported her missing, after which the police discovered her body in an abandoned house. Singh stated that CCTV footage from around the crime scene helped identify the accused. Alam was arrested and jailed following a confrontation.

Simultaneously, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, a special court sentenced a 30-year-old man to death on three charges for the rape and murder of a minor girl last year. Additionally, his mother and sister were each sentenced to two years in prison for their involvement. This tragic event took place in September last year.
