A shocking case of suicide has been reported in the Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh. A 30-year-old man, distressed about the pressure to change his religion, took his own life.
According to news agencies, the man accused both his wife and in-laws of pressuring him into religious conversion in a social media post before committing suicide. Police have arrested his wife and four others in connection with the incident.
On the morning of December 7, in Potiyadih village, the man, Linesh Sahu, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his home. Investigations revealed that Linesh had updated his WhatsApp status before committing suicide, mentioning the harassment by his wife and in-laws for religious conversion.
In his WhatsApp status, Linesh wrote, 'I am troubled by my wife; she harassed me a lot to convert religion. When I visited my in-laws, her mother and two sisters also pressured me to convert, saying they would later persuade my parents as well.' He sent this status to his brother-in-law at 3:43 AM on December 7.
According to the police, Linesh married Karuna, a resident of Raipur, in September 2022. In light of the suicide, police have arrested Karuna (27), her parents Rajkumar (54) and Gauri Sahu (48), and her sister Kiran Sahu (31). The search for Karuna’s younger sister Kanishka Sahu continues. The police are conducting an in-depth investigation into the case and examining other angles.
