The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has uncovered a network in the Yavatmal and Ahilyanagar districts that was diverting Muslim youth with an interest in football towards radicalization.

Following reports of terrorism-related activities, the agency swiftly raided 21 locations this week, apprehending several suspects. The raids led to the seizure of swords and numerous other materials.

Investigators noted that football is highly popular in Yavatmal's Pusad area, home to many active local clubs. The suspicious network identified boys active in football through these clubs.

Football Clubs Turned 'Recruitment Grounds'

ATS suspects these sports platforms were exploited to influence and integrate impressionable youths into radical ideologies. In Pusad, numerous Muslim children and teenagers are drawn to football, with many local clubs operating in the region.

The use of certain football-related platforms to identify and sway vulnerable youths, indoctrinating them into the ideology, has come into question.

Raids in Ahilyanagar have led to the confiscation of swords, electronic devices, CCTV footage, and various suspicious documents. It was also revealed that some boys were taken outside Maharashtra, raising alerts among security agencies.

Investigation Continues

ATS officials state that no formal charges have been filed yet. The seized electronic devices and documents are currently under analysis. CCTV footage is being used to trace movements and meetings of suspects. Future actions will be determined based on these findings.
